What is Fix for Life
Fix for Life (F4L) is a next-generation embalming technology developed in the Netherlands, designed to preserve bodies with lifelike texture, color, and flexibility. It combines a two-component arterial solution and immersion concentrate to maintain morphology under dissection and long-term storage.
- Phenol-free formulation
- Formaldehyde concentration in preservation fluid: < 0.2%
- Maintains tissue pliability and natural color even after repeated dissection
- Ambient-temperature storage possible (no constant refrigeration)
- Safe to use in teaching labs, suitable for surgical / minimally invasive training
Why Fix for Life Outperforms Traditional Methods
In rigorous studies, F4L-preserved specimens track far better to fresh tissue under dissection than conventional formaldehyde methods.
❌ Traditional / Formaldehyde-focused methods
High formaldehyde, strong odor, tissue rigidity
Loss of color, brittle tissue over time
Requires constant refrigeration or freezing
Regulatory and handling hazards (phenol, high chemical exposure)
✅ Fix for Life (F4L)
Very low formaldehyde (<0.2%), minimal odor
Maintains color, flexibility, realistic texture
Possible ambient storage via immersion or vacuum seal
Phenol-free formulation, reduced hazards
How it works / process
1
Perfusion
Arterial injection of the two-component F4L solution via pump or gravitational flow.
2
Immersion
After perfusion, the specimen is placed in an immersion bath to stabilize tissue and restore color saturation.
3
Storage / Maintenance
Either keep the body in immersion (short-term) or vacuum-seal in low-permeability bags for ambient storage.
4
Reactivation / refresh
If a body has faded after extended use, it can be re-immersed and color can be revived.
